Valentine’s Day

February 8th, 2011 by Sarah

I don’t see one bit of red here! This hand tied bouquet is an elegant “arrangement” of flowers. It is made with pink and green roses, thistle, snap dragons, stock in shades of pink, queen anne’s lace, hypericum berries, seeded eucalyptus and and a few other goodies. The diameter of the bouquet is about 12″ and it is a special order for Valentine’s weekend priced at $75.00.

Three Orchid Blooms

January 6th, 2011 by Sarah

After all the excess of the holidays, this simple arrangement is refreshing. We can see the beauty of each bloom, and the tray makes the arrangement a cohesive floral display.

I have used a copper tray ($12) available at Fraiche, and votive candle holders.  The orchid blooms are $11.25 each.

Demonstration December 8th at 5:00 and 6:30pm

December 6th, 2010 by Sarah

When I think of Williamsburg at Christmastime, I think “Stuffy! I’ve seen that before…boring!”.

Well, now I’m getting older…and it’s not quite so dull. Classic is good, it makes you feel grounded. And why not take a new twist on the classics?
On Wednesday December 8th, I am going to show some other, different, more contemporary ideas along the same vein.  I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about your holiday arrangements! The demonstration will be at Fraiche at 5:00 and 6:30 pm.

How flattering! (I’m batting my eyelashes now) When I was thinking of what Courtney wanted, I really thought of how I do things, my mother does things, my grandmother, aunt, and on and on. Just think of things  in a different way. Flower arranging  is really just problem solving, and the first problem is how to make the arrangement….R Home blog post

Flowers on a Candlestick

November 4th, 2010 by Sarah

Here I have updated a classic. I’ve been reviewing my Sheila Macqueen books given to me by my mother and dear Auntie Lloyd.

An arrangement on a candle stick is so English and sort of retro too. This fall inspired arrangement has mums, bittersweet, jasmine vine,  pepper berry, gold wire and a few other little tidbits.

The bird in the nest gives it an unexpected focal point.

YMCA – The New Colors are Fun!

October 22nd, 2010 by Sarah

Posted is an arrangement I made for the Patrick Henry YMCA ribbon cutting. The new colors are great for creating bright, fun and energetic arrangements.

Be sure to click on this photo for a better view. The picture was taken viewing the “long and low” from the side. I used moss to cover the oasis instead of greens, and that kept the arrangement from being to dense with greens. The teal wire adds some fun to arrangement, as well as the ribbons.
